My first visit to Cheyenne,WY was in February 2008 on my way from Denver,CO to Sheridan, WY. I just stayed for a few hours and on my return trip for one night, making an excursion to follow the BNSF track north towards Chugwater,WY on 211/Horse Creek and Iron Mountain Road.
Since then I have been visiting Cheyenne frequently. making it a starting point of my
Western Experience in culture,history and livestyle!
Some funfacts about Cheyenne.
Founded with the arrival of the Union Pacific Railway in 1867. With a population of about 63000, Cheyenne is located in about 6000 Feet in the south easterly corner of the State of Wyoming.
Also serving as the State Capital.
Cheyenne is host of the world largest outdoor rodeo the " Daddy 'of 'em all "
the Cheyenne Frontier Days (CFD) .
Cheyenne is a great place to start your railfanning, visiting places of historical interest like Fort Laramie,the Oregon Trail Ruts in Guernsey,WY,Register Cliff were the first settlers inscribed their names into the sandstone cliff.
Natural beauty like Vedauwoo rock formation at the Medicin Bow National Forest.
And another of my favorites, Curt Goudy State Park just a little drive west of Cheyenne.

Railfanning around Cheyenne,
Cheyenne is a perfect place starting your excursions, combining nature as a perfect
backdrop for your railphotography. Places like Dale Junction,Hermosa Tunnel,Sherman Hill
Harriman Sub, Tie Siding are just a few places to spend the day hunting trains.
but firstly stay safe,respect privat lands, obey rules and regulations.
